History of Beth Rambam

In the early 1980's, Houston was already blessed with many synagogues. However, the need for a Sephardic -Synagogue , had been on the minds of many but few had the vision to make it a reality. Three men got together and decided that it could be done. With this vision, they approached others in the community who also agreed that the time had come and the need for such a house of worship was indeed a good idea. Consequently, committees, were organized to recruit members of Sephardic/oriental origins who wanted to maintain traditions of their forefathers for future generations. Extensive fund raising began throughout the country and even outside the U.S. Houses were volunteered for daily Minyanim until semi-permanent headquarters were set up in the Meadowwalk Townhouse Clubhouse. Today, Congregation Beth Rambam has members of all diverse background, Sephardic and Ashkenazi, American, Middle eastern and Israeli, several generations American and recent immigrants. We are grateful to all of you who helped put us together, have kept us together and will surely be together with us for many years to come.
